Nancy Epling, artist and studio manager at Passion Works Studio in Athens, Ohio, spent her last day at the studio on November 6, 2024, before returning to Licking County Jail to complete the final 15 days of a 30-day sentence. A key contributor to the studio’s vibrant creative environment, Epling’s work reflects local culture and a collaborative ethos.
Epling was among activists protesting at Boeing’s Heath, Ohio, facility in March 2024, targeting the company’s role as a defense contractor for Israel. The demonstration, which involved blocking entrances and using suspension techniques, caused significant delays and led to arrests. Epling and four others were charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panic, with prosecutors seeking jail time and $300,000 in restitution for alleged losses. The case has sparked debate over Ohio’s anti-boycott laws and economic ties to Israel, raising concerns about suppressing dissent. Epling was released on November 27, 2024. (Photo by Raymond Ayivor)
